The Kickstart Scheme provides funding to employers to create new 6-month job placements for young people who are currently on Universal Credit and at risk of long-term unemployment. This is part of the government’s Plan for Jobs and aims to create hundreds and thousands of new, fully funded jobs across England, Scotland and Wales.
London Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) in conjunction with London’s Local Chambers are acting as intermediaries for the Kickstart Scheme.

For each job placement funding will cover:
- 100% of the relevant National Minimum Wage for 25 hours a week
- The associated employer National Insurance contributions
- Employer minimum automatic enrolment contributions
- A set up fund to provide wrap around support for the employer and young person
The Kickstart Scheme is a £2 billion fund to create hundreds of thousands of high quality 6-month work placements for young people.
Through the scheme, you’ll be able to access a large pool of young people with potential, ready for an opportunity. The candidates are aged between 16-24 and are on Universal Credit and at risk of long-term unemployment.
Employers from all industries and across the private, public and voluntary sectors can get involved.
How to apply if you are an employer?
If you are applying for 30 or more job placements, you can submit your application online. If you are creating fewer than 30 job placements, a Kickstart gateway organisation can act on your behalf and apply for a Kickstart Scheme grant for you. LCCI is working closely with London’s Local Chambers who are acting as Kickstart gateways.
